Laure PECQUEUR, Jean SOULAT THE VICQ CEMETERY (YVELINES) |
Abstract
The Early Medieval cemetery at Vicq has seen numerous excavations since its chance discovery in the 19th century. Two major projects were carried out from 1976 to 1984 by the Commission du Vieux Paris, directed by Edmond Servat, and in 2016 by the Inrap, directed by Laure Pecqueur. In all, 2,329 graves have been recorded, containing over 7,000 objects dating between the second half of the 5th and the 7th century. Excavation of the south-east sector of the cemetery in 2016 has not only clarified the extent of the burial area but also the length of the occupation period, which now covers the first quarter of the 5th century to the end of the 8th century.
