IN THE SOUTH-EAST PARIS AREA FROM THE EARLY NEOLITHIC TO THE MODERN PERIOD

In recent years, the Val-de-Marne departmental council has organised two cultural and scientific events based on the theme of migrations. As part of this initiative, the departmental archaeology service has also contributed by communicating recent regional archaeological research on the subject to a wide public. In 2008 an exhibition presented "Animal and human migrations, a journey over continents". A conference organised the 3rd and 4th of June 2010 concerned "Dynamics of settlement, habitat and cultural infl uences in the south-east Paris area from the early Neolithic to the Modern period". The proceedings comprise the present volume. The conference was organised by the departmental archaeology service, represented by Djillali Hadjouis and David Coxall, in conjunction with the state offi ce for archaeology in the Ile-de-France region, represented by Alain Bulard. The two-day conference attracted a wide audience drawn from the various professional and volunteer archaeological institutions and organisations of the region.

Of the 35 presentations at the conference, 16 have been retained for publication in this volume. The articles are organised by chronological period from the Middle Palaeolithic to the early 20th century. Drawn for the most part from recent unpublished studies and excavations, the articles provide an up-dated view of archaeology in this area of the Ile-de-France.
