Patrick PÉRIN in the name of Saint-Denis’team MEROVINGIAN GRAVES IN THE SAINT DENIS BASILICA: |
Abstract
Acquisition by the National Museum of Archaeology of the Merovingian grave-goods from excavations in the Saint Denis basilica, including those of Queen Arégonde in 1994 and 1996, has enabled the French Museums Centre for Research and Restauration to further studies of the metal finds and associated decorative gemstones. Supplementary research, which concerned the numerous organic finds rediscovered in 1993, was extended following the rediscovery of Michel Fleury’s excavation records in 2017. This recent research, summarised here, will appear as a collective, multidisciplinary and international volume, planned for publication in 2023.
