Valérie DELATTRE OBSERVING DISABILITY DURING THE EARLY MIDDLE AGES PERIOD IN THE ÎLE-DE-FRANCE: |
Abstract
The archaeology of disability is still an innovative approach, linked to palaeopathology. Although studies are starting to emerge, the systematic collecting of data remains a prerequisite for considering the prevalence of incapacitating pathologies as defined, adapted to the interpretative framework of funerary archaeology. The significant data base established by the “Archaeology of Merovingian cemeteries in the Île-de-France” project and the systematic recording of skeletal ailments and lesions enable a chronological approach to the subject.
