Abstract

The present paper reviews conservation procedures applied to palaeoenvironmental and geo-archaeological samples from during archaeological excavations, taking into consideration their scientific and heritage interest. The question of their scientific interest is looked at more specifically in the light of discussion generated by the 2017 decree which defines procedures for the conservation, selection and study of archaeological material. The paper is a synthesis of discussion with various specialists in palaeoenvironmental studies. The work was carried out in the Ile-de-France regional archaeological office as part of curatorial training at the national institute for heritage.
