Ivan LAFARGE THE CHURCH OF NOTRE-DAME AND SAINT SULPICE AT NOISY-LE-GRAND (SEINE-SAINT-DENIS): results of archaeological surveillance of restoration work

Abstract

The church of Notre-Dame and Saint-Sulpice at Noisy-le-Grand, completely restored between 2011 and 2013, comprises numerous building phases. Archaeological observation has allowed a re-examination of these phases, which progressively incorporated formal architectural developments, and appraisal of the place of this secondary monument within the architectural history of the Ile-de-France region. Archaeological data would suggest that an original private sanctuary was raised to parish-church status in the later 11th century as a result of a donation to the abbey of Saint-Martin-des-Champs, causing the decline of the ancient "Mastraits" cemetery.
