Mathieu DUPLESSIS (†), Valérie DELATTRE, Ginette AUXIETTE A COMPOSITE AND ATYPICAL DEPOSIT OF A HUMAN |
Abstract
The storage pit 27 dating to the Late Hallstatt / La Tène at "La Butte aux Bergers", Chilly-Mazarin (Essonne) has revealed a composite deposit associating human and several species of animal remains (horses, wild cat, hare, …). This structure joins the already important inventory of probable Iron Age sites with evidence of a subterranean domestic cult with codified ritual practices that relate to the agricultural communities of the period. These staged practices involve manipulations of human bodies, selected animals and more rarely prestige objects.
