Juliette DURAND A PERFORATED BIFACE FROM THE NEOLITHIC SITE OF LIMAY (YVELINES) "Rue National"

Abstract

Stratigraphical layers dating to the Early and Middle Neolithic 1 and 2 were discovered at Limay "Rue Nationale – 5/7, rue Duvivier – 22/24, rue de la Tranderie". They correspond to structured vestiges, but most of the archaeological material, including the biface presented here, is from a separate isolated layer and it is thus not possible to determine its cultural origin. It is however original with its central perforation and the observed traces of use on its surface. The double pickaxe known as a "head breaker" is rare, with only two other examples documented in the area. The Limay biface is the first of its kind in the Yvelines.
