A NOTE CONCERNING THREE MEROVINGIAN STONE SARCOPHAGI FOUND
AT CANNES-ÉCLUSE (SEINE-ET-MARNE)

Abstract

During relocation of the archaeological depot at Champigny-sur-Marne in 2008 and 2009, a series of sarcophagi fragments was mistakenly attributed to the Seine-Saint-Denis departmental collection. It has now been proven that this assemblage comes from excavations on the site of the police training-school at Cannes-Écluse (Seine-et-Marne). The present short article responds to the lack of published documentation concerning these excavations and the recent advances in the study of Merovingian sarcophagi in the Île-de-France.
