AN EARLY BRONZE AGE SITE:
"Le Grand Godet" at Villeneuve-le-Roi (Val-de-Marne)

Abstract

The Villeneuve-le-Roi "Le Grand Godet" site is located on an alluvial terrace of the Seine, about 10 km up river of the Seine-Marne confluence. The site, about 1 hectare, is divided into two zones that each has completely different archaeological features: the features of the first zone are oblong pits without any archaeological finds, the second zone is comprised of grouped circular pits with abundant pottery, animal bone and stone artefacts. The pottery vessels have complex features that include covering finger motifs. Three radiocarbon dates, two of which correspond to the beginning of the second millennium BC confirm the analysis of the pottery elements and date the series to the Early Bronze Age.
