A RARE SITE DATING TO THE RECENT PHASE OF THE AURIGNACIAN
IN THE NORTH OF THE PARIS BASSIN:

"ZAC du Triangle de Gonesse - Europacity" at Gonesse (Val-d’Oise)

Abstract

The recent study of a small assemblage of lithic material discovered during the the Gonesse "ZAC du Triangle de Gonesse - Europacity" (Val-d’Oise) excavation has been dated to the Early Upper Palaeolithic, and more precisely to one of the recent phases of the Aurignacian (around 32,000 BP non-cal). Although no radiometric dating could be carried out (absence of bone remains or hearths, near-surface level), the presence of Dufour lamellae sub-type Roc-de-Combe and carinated-busked burins is characteristic of this period. This is a major discovery given the few deposits from this period in northern France.
