Isabelle DE MIRANDA, Jean-Luc RIEU AN ASSESSMENT OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL OUT-REACH WORK IN THE ÎLE-DE-FRANCE |
Abstract
The last forty years have seen major developments in the mediation of archaeology in France. However, for the moment we do not have a national or regional overview of the organisms that work in this domain. Also, we only have an approximate idea of their structures, function, aims and how they contribute to heritage promotion and conservation as well as their relationship with research bodies. To shed more light on these aspects on a local level, we conducted an investigation in the Île-de-France region. This work has brought to light the great diversity of existing structures and their organisation. It also underlines different levels of funding and certain weaknesses in terms of formation and the public targeted. This has in some cases brought prejudice to the structure’s capacity of imparting knowledge to the general public and the quality of their actions.
