LATE HALLSTATT PITS AT LIEUSAINT "LE BRAS DE FER" (SEINE-ET-MARNE)

 

Abstract

Forty pits dating from the Late Hallstatt (Ha D1/D2, 6th century BC) were discovered on the C1 Lot of the Pyramid Residential Park in the new town of Sénart. Most seem to be storage pits and have produced abundant finds. This paper is part of a global presentation and analysis of the Early Iron Ages sites of the Sénart Plateau. The finds are representative of domestic material of this period. The pottery study has defined the typological and morphological characteristics of the vessels as well as their volumes, putting emphasis on the chronocultural elements of the corpus. The archaeozoological analysis has underlined the domestic character of the site with the consumption of caprids, pork and beef and uncommon practices such as the roasting of dog and deer. The lithic study raises the question of the reuse of much older artefacts.

CHARACTERISTIC POTTERY ASSEMBLAGES DATING FROM THE HALLSTATT D1
IN "LA BASSÉE" AND THE SEINE-YONNE CONFLUENCE (SEINE-ET-MARNE)

 

Abstract

This paper aims to specify pottery typology of the Hallstatt D1 period via the presentation of 12 assemblages from settlement sites of the Bassée and the area of the Seine-Yonne confluence. This study is part of ongoing research focusing on the Late Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age within this micro-region that has already resulted in the development of a typochronological framework for pottery dating from 9th-5th century BC.

VEGETABLE FOODS DURING EARLY PROTOHISTORY IN ÎLE-DE-FRANCE
Carpological Study from the Sites of Gif-sur-Yvette "Rond-Point de Corbeville"
(Essonne) and Villiers-sur-Seine "Le Gros Buisson" (Seine-et-Marne)

 

Abstract

Archaeobotanical studies of two sites in Île-de-France region are presented. Gif-sur-Yvette "Rond-point de Corbeville" dates from the end of the Hallstatt period, while Villiers-sur-Seine "Le Gros Buisson" dates to the Bronze age/Iron age transition period. Both have been thoroughly sampled but show different levels of preservation. Results highlight a vegetal economy based on hulled cereals, mostly barley, emmer and broomcorn millet. Pulses are numerous and diversified in Villiers-sur-Seine, while they are underrepresented in Gif-sur-Yvette. Oil plants are poppy in the first site and gold of pleasure in the last. Numerous pieces of charred and agglomerated seeds (mostly broomcorn millet) have been recovered from all of the settlement of Villiers-sur-Seine. Uncommon states of cereal grains have also been observed (germinated wheat, crushed barley). Analyses have been made and hypotheses are discussed.

AN EARLY NEOLITHIC BURIAL AT CORBEIL-ESSONNES
"La Montagne des Glaises" (Essonne)

 

Abstract

A concentration of vestiges dating to the Neolithic was discovered at Corbeil-Essonnes (Essonne) during an evaluation prior to the construction of the ZAC de la Montagne des Glaises. An individual burial with a funerary deposit and two oblong pits were discovered. The lithic and pottery studies of the grave goods date the burial to the Early Neolithic period - Late Rubané or Villeneuve-Saint-Germain, in addition confirmed by radiocarbon dating. This burial indicates the possible presence of a Neolithic settlement nearby and adds to the corpus of Neolithic burials in the Paris basin.

FROM THE PALAEOLITHIC TO LATE ANTIQUITY:
Archaeological Discoveries from a 100 Hectare Evaluation
on the Banks of the River Seine (Flins-sur-Seine / Les Mureaux, Yvelines)

 

Abstract

Archaeological investigations were carried out prior to the building of a car circuit on a 100 hectare site at the heart of the Seine-Aval area. Situated on the left bank, close to the Seine, the site spreads over two agglomerations of the Yvelines department: Flins-sur-Seine and Les Mureaux. Many archaeological finds dating from all periods have been found. They indicate that the sector has been more or less intensely populated from the Late Palaeolithic to the Late Roman period.
