Abstract

The village centre of Drancy (Seine-Saint-Denis) has been the object of many archaeological investigations. Even though only small areas have been excavated it is possible follow its evolution from the La Tène period to Modern times. Excavations have revealed an enclosed La Tène settlement with rich finds that question its function. The site is given over to agricultural activities during the Roman period that prefigure the early medieval rural settlements where significant finds have been discovered dating from the Merovingian period. The 11th and 12th centuries are also well documented whereas historical texts are the main sources for the Late Middle ages and the modern period.
