Roland LABARRE THE LUTETIA AQUEDUCT: A New Approach

Abstract

Knowledge of the Paris Roman aqueduct is based primarily upon a study and a map dating respectively from the late 19th and the early 20th century. Until recently, neither verification nor up-dating of this evidence had been undertaken. Checking of archaeological data, carried out as part of university research, has led to a critical analysis of all available documentation. The adopted approach has favoured determining the aqueduct’s actual physical location and the coherence of information as well as studying gradients in order to attempt an explanation of how this monumental structure functioned.
