INITIAL RESULTS FROM ARCHAEOLOGICAL MONITORING
OF RESTORATION WORK ON THE SAINT-SULPICE CHURCH
IN AULNAY-SOUS-BOIS (SEINE-SAINT-DENIS)

Abstract

The restoration of the medieval part of the Saint-Sulpice church at Aulnay-sous-Bois largely benefited from the archaeological survey conducted during the two years of the intervention. This operation made it possible to locate and to date the various phases of the building, to identify the source of the construction materials, to study the marks made by the 12th century stone cutters and to propose a restitution of the original construction, even though it seems that the ambitious architectural project was not completed. Lastly, this survey has enabled the rediscovery of the 12th century capitals, which deserve further study.
