Isabelle CATTEDDU ARCHAEOLOGY OF THE VILLAGE CONTEXT: |
Abstract
Archaeology of the village context now has its place amongst priority research themes and in the scientific programmes of different institutions. There is no single model for village formation but several motors for development and transformation. Such research is hard to adapt to heritage law and developer- funded archaeology since excavation is complex and requires interdisciplinary tools. After giving a brief history of the subject, we consider four points: new forums for debate, state of knowledge, constraints and methodological issues, and finally the social challenge of village archaeology.
