Fabien PILON GALLO-ROMAN SETTLEMENT ON THE NORTHERN AND SOUTHERN SIDES OF THE CENTRAL RELIGIOUS COMPLEX AT CHATEAUBLEAU (SEINE-ET-MARNE): Structuring of the Area and Periodisation

Abstract

The "central religious complex" occupies a significant and privileged position within the Gallo-Roman town at Châteaubleau (Seine-et-Marne). However, as with the theatre which is contemporary, or the spring-water shrine with which it is physically connected, nothing was known about the nature of settlement on its periphery. Research excavations carried out from 2005 to 2009 on two plots of land have resolved this question by providing information on the structuring of the space north and south of the monument and its development over time. Excavation has revealed built-up residential areas dating to the 3rd century and to the 3rd and 4th centuries respectively, thus providing new insight into this Gallo-Roman town.
