Lucie ALTENBURG, Jean-François GORET MANAGEMENT AND CONSERVATION OF THE DHAAP COLLECTIONS: retracing an old story and a recent assessment programme "beyond the norm"

Abstract

In 2014, the DHAAP Archaeology Service launched a collections assessment programme designed to establish a complete inventory of finds under its care since the 1950’s and to define new protocols for conservation and study. Identified as an objective within the R&CAP project, the programme was rendered "beyond the norm" by the extent of observed shortfalls in previous treatment and storage. Significant resources had to be mobilised and were partially dedicated to creating a new storage facility within the Service’s present premises.
