Filipe FERREIRA FROM DISCOVERY TO RECONSTITUTION OF A MONUMENT: the Paris Roman Theatre (rue Racine, 6th arrondissement) in the Papiers Vacquer

Abstract

The Theatre’s discovery in the rue Racine (6th arr.) in 1861 is known to us through the Vacquer Papers. These invaluable archives provide researchers with access to a primary source of archaeological observation carried out during the capital’s transformation in the second half of the 19th century. Using the Parisian archaeologist’s site-notes, final drawings and publication-ready plans, we can partially reconstruct his scientific process and define its implications and influences on present-day research.
