Hugo CADOR, David COUTURIER MAPPING THE THICKNESS OF URBAN LAYERS IN ROMAN LUTETIA |
Abstract
Mapping the thickness of urban stratigraphy in Paris (the “Alti Lutèce” project) forms the basis of a tool for preparing archaeological excavation and synthesizing data at the post-excavation stage. At this point, priority has been given to Roman period stratigraphy since it is readily detected and quantitively significant. Analysis leads to considerations concerning the erosion of upper levels. Systematic study of core samples could provide an alternative for deep reconnaissance in alluvial contexts.
