Arnaud PRIÉ (†), Véronique PISSOT, Luc LECONTE, Olivier COTTÉ, A SMALL 2ND TO 3RD CENTURY SITE IN A WINE-PRODUCING CONTEXT: |
Abstract
Archaeological investigations were undertaken from 1997 to 1999 ahead of the A115 roadbuilding project between Sannois and Méry-sur-Oise. A 2nd to 3rd century rural site was excavated at La Garenne in Taverny, close to the known Roman settlement on the Julius Caesar Street. The site comprised a courtyard delimited by two perpendicular buildings, and in addition a small cellar with five alcoves and a large storage pit and well. The ground-plan would appear to be almost complete, but the sparse artefact evidence does not indicate use as living space. Layout and structures suggest a specialised working area, probably related to grape and wine production
