BRONZE AGE RING DITCHES AT CHALIFERT "ZAC DU CLOS DES HAIES SAINT-ÉLOI"
(SEINE-ET-MARNE) IN THE CONTEXT OF THE NORTH OF ILE-DE-FRANCE

Abstract

The discovery of two oval ditches on the edge of the plateau overlooking the Marne valley in Chalifert (Seine-et-Marne), has given us the opportunity to revise the very diverse documentation accumulated over the last 20 years on Bronze Age monuments. The circular, rarely oval monuments some with interrupted ditches, or composed of stone crowns often located in a prominent position or found in cemeteries show a great diversity of morphology and location. However, the lack of radiocarbon dates and the small number of excavated monuments limits our understanding of the influence of Atlantic traditions in the Île-de-France region during the Bronze Age.
