HISTORICAL AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL LANDSCAPES WITH REFERENCE TO RECENT
DISCOVERIES AT ASNIERES-SUR-SEINE, PLACE DES VICTOIRES (HAUTS-DE-SEINE)

Abstract

The first phase of the archaeological survey of the "Place des Victoires", despite its highly urbanised context, revealed relatively well-preserved remains. Materialised by dug out features and abundant Early Medieval finds, the discoveries underline several occupation phases dating from the Late Roman period to present day in  the centre of Asnières. From the first rural settlements to the two market halls of the 19th and 20th centuries, this new set of data has led us to review the foundation, organisation and evolution of the town. It also contributes to research on the emergence of the "village".
