Céline LE GOFF-BENZAÏDI NEVER LOOK A GIFT-HORSE IN THE MOUTH!! |
Abstract
Trial trenching by Inrap on the Maurepas site at Mitry-Mory (Seine-et-Marne) in 2019 revealed a partially connected horse skeleton dating from the 18th or 19th century. Study of the bone remains revealed traces suggesting several possible post-mortem uses including consumption. Analysis indicates that the surprising removal of the muzzle, with the incisor areas of the skull and lower jaw being sawn off, was probably sampling for veterinary research.
