SUMMING UP 10 YEARS OF EXCAVATION IN THE TOWN CENTRE:
The "Mastraits" Early Medieval cemetery at Noisy-le-Grand (Seine-Saint-Denis)

Abstract

Developer-funded and planned-research excavations have been caried out on the Noisy-le-Grand cemetery since 2008. Of the 803 burials excavated so far, almost one third date from the Merovingian period and two thirds from the 8th to early 13th century. Burial practices differ clearly between the use of plaster or stone coffins for the older burials and the more minimalist grave-pits for the later ones. Clothed burials with abundant grave-goods give way progressively to shroud burials.
