CHRONOLOGICAL TYPOLOGY OF BROOCHES FROM VICQ (YVELINES):
A True Reference Collection

Abstract

For more than a century, numerous archaeological excavations have been carried out at Vicq, site of one of the largest early medieval cemeteries in Europe. The cemetery is located at "Le Radet, les Terres à Froment" only a few metres to the north of the present-day grave-yard. Excavations have produced a remarkable quantity of Merovingian grave goods: high-status dress accessories, glass-ware and pottery. The chronological and typological study presented here highlights the brooches which, given their number and variety, constitute a true reference collection for research in Merovingian archaeology.
