LATE 17th CENTURY MONASTIC POTTERY FROM THE PORT-ROYAL
DES CHAMPS ABBEY SITE AT MAGNY-LES-HAMEAUX (YVELINES)

Abstract

In 2007, trial trenching carried out by Claude de Mecquenem (Inrap) on the site of the renowned Port-Royal abbey at Magny-les-Hameaux (Yvelines) revealed a small pottery assemblage. Comparison of this finds-group with another assemblage, discovered in a domestic rubbish pit on the site of the now-lost Feuillantines convent in Paris, provides a fuller interpretation and affords a clearer picture of the earthenware crockery supplied to the Abbey at the end of the 17th century.
